Dear Mr. Kolberg:
Please
put my story on the support page as I would like to hear from someone in a
similar position. I am 17 years old and I am waiting for a date to come
through for an operation to take my eye out.
My eyesight in my left eye has gradually deteriorated in my left eye since I
was born and the doctors tried making me wear an eye patch on my right eye
in the hope that It would help my left eye, but it didn't work.
I have colabomas (odd
shaped pupils) in
both my eyes which does not help my sight. In my left eye I had a cataract
removed when I was 13. After the operation I had lots of pain that has not gone
away five years later and they do not know why. My specialist thinks That I have
blood vessels growing into my cornea which could be a cause.
About two years ago they discovered that my retina had detached but
reattaching it would just put me through more pain and not regain any sight
in my eye. I have pain now when I concentrate and eye drops will not get rid
of the pain so I am having my eye taken out.
I am worried that I will regret the operation because
my eye does not look bad and my pain comes and goes, although when I have
it, it takes a while to go away. Also I am hoping to go to university and I
get the most pain when I concentrate.
I would be very happy to have my story on the support page as I think it
really helps to know other people have the same fears. I would love to
e-mail anyone.
Nina
