Lillian's Story

Hello,

My name is Lillian, I live in Baltimore and I would like to share my story with you.   I am a 33 year old female who, due to trauma in 1981 suffered the loss of my right eye.  My injury occurred when I was hit in the eye with a bottle ( not intended for me ),  I was 15 years old at the time.

I was cared for at the Maryland General Hospital.  My ophthalmologist, Dr. Dwayne Bryant removed my eye only after every effort that was made to repair it  was unsuccessful.

On May 2, 2000 I am scheduled to have a secondary implant surgery.  This will be to remove the initial implant, and place a new implant designed to improve motility, retention and give me a more natural appearance.

Recently I was told that I am a "glaucoma suspect" after not doing so well on two glaucoma tests.  Obviously  I am trying hard to resolve this situation since I only have the one good eye left. Naturally, this is a major concern to me and I am somewhat worried.

Until now I had no idea that this artificial eye website patient support page even existed.

I would like to correspond with others like me and would appreciate hearing from you.

Most sincerely,

Lillian
