Hello,
I wear a prosthetic eye (scleral flap, so
it is like a shell), and am allergic to the prosthesis. I just cannot
tolerate the prosthesis for more than a few hours and consequently, my being
in public is limited and I'm not able to work full-time.
I am seriously considering wearing just a
patch and forgetting the prosthesis. Whenever I do wear a patch, literally
everyone makes a comment about it. They all think they're clever with jokes
about me being a pirate, suggesting I paint an eye on the patch, etc. I so
wish it were not so noticeable, something that could be hidden -- but the
eyes are where people automatically gaze. I am an attractive woman, but
have this glaring disability.
I would love to have support in your
community.
Thank you,
Claudia
