Dear Friends:

It's been a while since my last post on this site(2001 or so). I
had a retinal detachment in my right eye after a car accident. After several surgeries, I realized my eye was shrinking and I was depressed. I posted on this site for support and boy did I get it. I'm so glad I found this page!

So many people emailed me to share their stories and give advice. I really appreciate all of those folks. I am happy to say I got my first scleral shell yesterday. I coped with my small eye for about a year. Even though I had grown accustom to it, my bad eye bothered me. It was hard to look at people. I heard from some folks with scleral shells and began some research.

I found an Ocularist that practices in my area and made an appointment. I'm still getting use to the shell (only had it in one day...not even 24 hours yet!) but it seems to be doing the trick. My eye is sore and should be sore for a few days, and I have increased discharge which should also clear up after a few days. I'm glad I checked into all my options. If anyone has any questions about the procedure I went though, please feel free to email me.

I'll be happy to share my experience if it can help ease the fear for
someone else.

I would also like to hear from others with the shells. I can always benefit
from outside experiences. This is very new to me and I'm sure I'll have many questions.

I hope everyone has a great 2003!

Sincerely,

Annalisha
